The Field of Sarria = "Can Rabies" = "the Bombonera"
Popularly known as
"Can Rabies" or "La Bombonera" was the scene of R.C.D.Espanyol for 73 years.
1922. December. VICTORIAN OF RIVA, which takes over the presidency to his brother GENARO, buy some land in "Can Ràbia" for 170,000 pesetas. (€ 1,022.00) for the new field of R.C.D.Espanyol.
31 December 1922.. the foundation stone for building up the field Sarria gets. The works directs the architect MATÍAS COLMENARES.
1923. February 18. Sarria field is inaugurated, although in precarious conditions because the construction bankruptcy before completing the project. Field capacity is 11,000 spectators, although it was designed for 40,000. The opposing team is the U.E.Sants.
1925. February. Tribune Sarria with SANTIAGO DE LA RIVA is inaugurated as president.
1942. The ability of Sarria, which at most can accommodate 12,000 people, prevents welcome new partners and grow as a club, at a time when many immigrants come to Barcelona. In addition Sarria owned by the family Riva causes a war that will last for years between supporters of the DE LA RIVA and PACO ROMAN, defending Sarria property of the R.C.D.Espanyol.
December 1947. Sarria conflict is resolved. GENARO DE LA RIVA selling access to R.C.D.Espanyol Sarrià in exchange for the president to be Fco.Javier SÁENZ.
The purchase price is made up of five million pesetas. (€ 30,050.00) and resolves liquidate OF RIVA 10% of box office receipts.
11 November 1951. After demolishing the emblematic "Xalet" Sarrià opens new tier of South goal, which increases the capacity by 11,000 new locations.
1956. September 30. Sarrià inaugurates the new grandstand and the new amphitheater.
1960. May 11. light towers Sarria are inaugurated, so that they can play night games.
1967. The club's debt amounts to 60 million Ptas. (€ 360,600.00) and returns to present the matter to reclassify Sarria, to buy the Les Corts. The purchase offer made by President VILA REYES to F.C.Barcelona is 110 million Ptas. (€ 661,100.00). The operation is unsuccessful and this will be the last chance to move to Old F.C.Barcelona field.
June 1982. Sarrià hosting World Cup matches in Spain. Play selections from Argentina, Brazil and Italy.
June 1992. Sarria is the scene of some football matches in the Olympic Games in Barcelona.
1997. June 21. Plunged into an unsustainable debt the club is forced sale of Sarria, which will be demolished for residential building. The R.C.D.Espanyol played his last game in Sarria, against Valencia C. F. The result is 3-2. The last goal in Sarria, on the valencianista Ivan Campo. The next destination will be Monjuïc R.C.D.Espanyol.
