A MICER HISTORY OF THE AERODROM

OF THE SENIA

IN MONTSIA (TARAGONA.)

WHEN AND HOW IS IT CONSTRUCTED:

The town of La Sénia (Montsià) was chosen by the Government of the Republic for its strategic position - halfway between Barcelona and Valencia and near the Balearic Islands - to install one of the most important aerodromes of the new network of fields Aviation that the Government projected during the Civil War. The construction of the Sénia field, which was to be large enough to accommodate fighters and bombers who would operate on the Aragon front and monitor the Mediterranean and Balearic coast, was carried out in 1937:

AERODROM DE LA SÈNIA:

When in April 1938 Franco's troops arrived at La Sénia, the aerodrome was occupied by (the Condor Legion) and served as a base to attack the southern front of Valencia first, to battle of the Ebro after and finally for the occupation of Catalonia:

The field of aviation of the Sénia. Built in 1937, it is a historical and patrimonial space partially conserved and linked to the recent memory of the population with numerous oral, documentary and graphic references. The airfield was formed by an extension of 90 hectares of land and an irregular perimeter reminiscent of a five-pointed star.
